Not sure how I deleted a node... grrrr.

ack! I meant here - please use this liberally for all elements or maybe for any kind of overarching / all encompassing feature. :)

Love the tiles tagging... thank you!!!

Please add valid `start_date` and `source` tags to this edit. Looking forward to your further efforts!

Hi Benjamin - please be sure to add `start_date` and `source` tags to your mapping. Right now, there's a lot showing up around Washington before it was settled because there's no `start_date` info tagged. I know this can slow things down, but it also makes things much richer in the end! Thanks! Jeff

Hi Benjamin - love that you're mapping Washington's history on OHM!

A few quick questions - the streets tagged as `living_street` - should those be `residential` instead?

And, the streets have start dates of 1936 - did you check that against the 1936 King County aerials? If so, great!

Also - if you're interested in doing a building footprint import, let's talk!

Thanks, Jeff

Nice work respecting preservation of local resources! Also nice use of the 3D dataset!

I'm no expert in this area - should the Carolingian Empire have its own chronology, too?

171730 pred 5 meseci

Hi Charlie - apparently, 'place' is a key value that a lot of other parts of the stack depend on, so place=kingdom is something we should be avoiding. (See: OSM has Puerto Rico as a 'state'... and... https://github.com/OpenHistoricalMap/issues/issues/374 .... and... https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15B3HKtAN4iRiQoQt0sdHXH4YcjCVUqARAUKX9eaVrRk/edit?gid=0#gid=0.

So... ideally, for now, this would be: place=country and
country=kingdom; empire
I'm going to add the country = empire tag as part of some slides I'm putting together as part of State of the Map, which is pretty much going to be a presentation of your hard work!

Thanks, Jeff

And... someone came in after me and added what I had left out... a chronology relation! https://www.openhistoricalmap.org/relation/2858067

You rock! Thank you for catching my obvious oversight... we were just talking about this on the forum!

Glad to have you here on OHM! Thank you! : )

Hi Bielikoo - welcome to OHM! Charlie is correct. `start_date` and `end_date` tags are very helpful to show when things change over time. One note I'd add is that even if we need to change a tag, there's usually a place you can store the tag's value without deleting it - in this case, `name:de`. There's a ton of great discussion about this on our forum - https://forum.openhistoricalmap.org/, and our wiki - https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OpenHistoricalMap. Even a small thing like a village changing primary name invokes all kinds of European history, tagging practices (`wikidata`, `start_event`, `end_event`, and `start_date:edtf`). I've taken the liberty of adding a few nodes to demonstrate tagging and changes over time, but please review my work to make sure I haven't made any mistakes! https://www.openhistoricalmap.org/changeset/174334

Thanks! Jeff

That is awesome to know - thanks so much for including that & also for using clearly CC0 data!

Hi Bookmark - do you remember what sources you used for some of these lines & relations? Some of the lines I've found from ISTAT don't match and I'd like to make sure I'm using the right ones. Thanks!

Hi Alphathon - rel: 2810171, https://www.openhistoricalmap.org/relation/2810171, doesn't seem to have ever had any borders. Is this one you have yet to get to? I freaked out when I saw it, thinking I had deleted the boundaries, but it looks like that's not the case! Just wanted to double-check. Thanks!

Hi there! As always, thanks for your contributions to OHM!

I must remind you, though, that importing data from OSM is highly discouraged and can put OHM at risk of being subjected to OSM's viral database license.

Please refrain from importing from OSM. Is there any chance there are public domain data sets you could use instead for this mapping?

Thanks!

w.o.w. Amazing the work you're doing!

Ian - great work! These old buildings may not have had perfectly parallel sides and right angle corners, but if the Sanborns show them that way, you may want to use the "squaring" function in iD - select a building way & right click to see the square function or just select the building and hit 'q'.
